No matter wherever I go, I mostly eat Punjabi food as it is plentiful, power-packed, and full of energy but it was a whole new experience for me to explore vegetarian food in Amritsar and try it out in the land of five rivers – Punjab itself!
Eating finger-licking food at an authentic Dhaba was my main priority as soon as I landed in Amritsar so I wasted no time and made my way to S.k Dhaba And Juice Bar at Gopalpura, which is about half an hour drive from the airport.
- LASSI
Lassi is an Indian summer cooler but this yogurt-based smooth and creamy drink rules the heart of every person residing in Punjab throughout the year. Trust me, there’s nothing better than a sip of sweet lassi on hot afternoons in Punjab!
- DAL MAKHANI
Being a passionate Dal Makhani lover, it was a pleasure to try it in the land of its origin. The black lentils and kidney beans loaded with an open-hearted dollop of butter were too hard to resist and I took no time to dig in and get lost in its flavorsome texture!
- KADAI PANEER
I like my main course to be spicy and loaded with veggies so I ordered Kadai Paneer over the famous Paneer Butter Masala. The cottage cheese used in Kadai Paneer served at S.k Dhaba and Juice Bar was one of the best cottage cheese I have ever eaten in my life and its thick gravy had a pleasant aroma of spices to it!

The next stop in my Dhaba hunt was Brother’s Amritsari Dhaba near the Golden Temple. It’s a well-known franchise in Amritsar which serves the best spicy Amritsari food.
- SPECIAL AMRITSARI KULCHA THALI
If you are in Amritsar, you got to try the world-famous Amritsari Kulcha. My taste buds were fully satisfied by the Special Amritsari Kulcha Thali at Brother’s Amritsari Dhaba which consisted of 2 baby Kulchas, chickpeas curry, and salad!
I wanted to wrap up my Dhaba food hunt in a perfect manner so I decided to cover few extra miles the next day and head to A1 Dhaba in the Jasso Majara village of Punjab…
- SARSON KA SAAG AUR MAKKE KI ROTI
My trip to Punjab would have been incomplete if I wouldn’t have tried its signature dish – Sarson ka Saag aur Makke ki Roti. This evergreen combination of Punjab not only tastes heavenly but it is extremely healthy as well!
